Dear Lunch Parents,

Thank you so much for giving up your precious time to monitor the children during lunch time.  Please know that we appreciate everything you do for us and for the children.

Here are the basic guidelines for the lunch hour.  There will undoubtedly be additions to these as the school year progresses as each class is different each year.  We'll start with these and please make suggestions if you think there is something else we can do to make the lunch time more enjoyable and manageable for you and the children.

1.        The children must remain seated during lunch.  They may not walk around while they are eating.

2.        When they are finished with everything, they can then get up to throw out their garbage.

3.        When the children have cleaned up after themselves, they may draw, color or read books at their tables.  While it will be hard for them, staying in their seats and not wandering will be easier and safer for everyone.  There are bins on the shelves that correspond to the colors of the tables.  They contain the markers, crayons and pencils to use during lunch.  Please do not let them use the work bin supplies.  We purposely did not include scissors or glue in these bins.  It will create a big mess that you don't need.  No toys during lunch time as it will create quite a bit of havoc that is hard to control.  After we get into the routine of lunch, we may bring out some puzzles when we think that they can handle quiet play while waiting.

4.        We will be back at 12:00 when the bell rings and then we go out for recess.  If the children could use the restroom and have their coats on at that time, we can get right outside and make the most of our recess time.  Please try to get them all to use the restroom as there is always one that has to come back in and then the parade starts.

5.         Recess lasts until about 12:25.  If you can stay for recess, that would be great, but if you can't, we understand.  Both teachers go out for recess with the children everyday so the ratio will be fine.

6.        If you have time, the tables could be washed off after the children are done with soap water and then bleach water.
